Objectives :
The ESTRI course equips students with a high degree of linguistic fluency and excellent level of general culture as well as the professional knowledge and skills required for a career in translation or international relations.
Translation and interpreting - theory and practice
Areas studied:
- Translation for publication, press articles and texts on business, economic and social themes.
- Liaison interpreting.
The world of business and international organisations
Various disciplines are taught, starting with the basics and then from an international angle: accounting, economics, company operations, marketing, law, cross-cultural communication, transport and information and communication technologies (ICT).
General culture
This is an essential element of ESTRI courses and is covered in specific classes taught both in foreign languages and French: foreign literature, general history, civilisation, history of art and religion, geography, and reading and analysis of mainly international press articles and extracts from works on relevant topics such as culture, economics, politics and social issues.
Placements abroad
Placements are an integral part of the course. Their aim is not only to improve students' language skills but also to increase their cultural and intercultural awareness and encourage personal development. An eight-month placement in an English-speaking country in the first year and a six-month work placement abroad at the end of the third year (or during the fourth year if the student goes on to study at Master's level at ESTRI) give students the time to understand that their own way of life is not shared throughout the world and to become thoroughly familiar with other cultures.
and after ?
Further studies :
After the core three-year undergraduate course, students can go on to do a two-year Master's-level qualification specialising either in translation or international relations. In fourth year, students go on a six-month work placement in the second semester. At the end of fifth year, international relations students have a six-month work placement to round off their studies. Translation students have a three-month work placement.
Language of teaching :
Language A: French
Language B: English
Language B: German, Chinese, Spanish or Italian
